MTV rant, part 2

Whenever MTV do show music, it's horrible stuff.

Let us take rap music videos for instance. A young rapper flashing his platinum chains, drives very expensive cars and half naked women everywhere, rapping about how dope he is and all the haters are just jealous.

Wait wait, stop!
Wasn't rap about telling the story of the poverty and struggling each day in the ghettos?

Ever since the death of Tupac (Yes, yes I know. Mainstream rapper and all, still did the only mainstream rapper that had the guts to speak out against the social issues.) it seems like all the popular rappers today have forgotten what rapping is all about. Don't get me wrong, there are still rappers who rap about the social issues, one good example would be Immortal Technique.
But rappers like the one mentioned above, are not in the mainstream media (TV, Radio etc.).
So what are seeing today is just a glorification about materialism and how money makes you happy. Not to mention that it gives us a false impression of black people, being idiots who can't speak proper English, waste all their money on jewels, in general only care about their own well being and how they are appearing to others. (I know, one shouldn't base ones opinion on an entire race of people from a music video.).
Do your self a favour go youtube Tupac, Brenda's got a baby and then compare it to any song from one of the popular rappers today like 50 cent or lil Jon.

Now with rap out of the way, let us take a look on rock/metal.

Where the hell are all the heavy metal bands ? Take Megadeth for example, I personally find them to be a great band, but do you ever see them on MTV anymore? No instead we see bands like Blink 182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne, Green day and Bloodhound gang (who themselves think they're crappy and wonder why people buy their music).
I don't find any of these bands artistic or making songs that are in general special.
Bands like Death, Black Sabbath, Metallica and were pioneers. They wrote awesome stuff, not to mention laying the foundation of a new genre.
Today's bands, however, are extremely repetitive in their music and their lyrics doesn't leave me with a feeling that leaves me thinking.

As with rap let's go to youtube and compare some mainstream rock songs, let's start with Green day, American Idiot and compare that with Aus-rotten, The System Works for Them. You tell me which one is the true punk band.
Or let's try with metal. Youtube Nickleback, how you remind me and compare that with Death, Lack of Comprehension. I think you can agree with me that Death is the more artistic bands with nice ups and downs in the tone which suits the lyric generally. Where as Nickleback sounds pretty much the same the whole song.

Why on earth are these great artist and musicians not getting any screen time? Their lyrics are inspiring and truly works of art. I thought MTV was suppose to be a rebellious station that voiced the voice of the youth, through music?
