Parenting gone soft?

Are the modern day parents too soft? The media and politicians usually blame everything and everybody, but the parents (they're voters after all.). But if a parent doesn't know anything that goes on in the child's life, then there is a good chance the child becomes something harmful to society. Isn't that partly, perhaps mostly, the parents fault for not instilling values and morals (I know many people hate to hear the word morale.)?

Today there are numerous psychiatrist and so called child expert doctors, that insist parents should treat children like adults and try to reason with them. Make them see things from their point of view. Last time I checked a child didn't have a job, paid the bills and was financially and also emotionally responsible for the lives of the family. So how can a child see it from a parents point of view?

I think the blame goes both ways. The best example I can personally offer is Germany. Germany has a reputation world wide as being a fine, hard working industrial nation. But if you actually live in one of the bigger cities, study in the schools you can see that quite the opposite exists. Foul mouthed gangsta rap, where rappers rap with pride about their ghettos. And the youth swallows all this jamba, mtv, bushido and what not like a sponge. And what does it do in the end? It dumbs them down. Now it would be easy to blame the music, the tv and whatnot. But if a parent doesn't do something and assert themselves, then the ultimate blame lies on them for not taking action.

Ever heard an interview with a rapper? Usually it goes like this. "Man Fuck the media, they just try to keep a player down. Kids know what they like and they like my shit!". The rappers don't even hide the fact that it's children buying their albums, singles and fan articles. Even though their lyrics are foul mouthed and never actually tells them to do something positive (Before anyone gets on my back for naming all rap and hip hop as awful, I am well aware that there are positive rappers with messages that try to tell the youth to be a better persons. Yet when was the last time you ever heard them on TV or the radio?) Are the parents actually stopping for a second and thinking, hey my kid actually listens to such music? Nope.
